If you’re one of the luckiest people alive, here’s your chance to turn fishing into your retirement plan. In 67 lakes all around the country, if you catch the right fish you will win $1 million. You probably have a better chance of catching a Leprechaun on your way to the lake, but it’s a good excuse to spend a day on the water.
Cabela’s and the Outdoor Channel have teamed up to sponsor the “Wanna Go Fishing for Millions” contest. In lakes around the country, select fish have been tagged with special spaghetti tags. If you catch a fish with one of the tags, match the tag number to the prize list posted online to see what you’ve won.
The prizes range from shoes, fishing reels, wireless routers, Cabela’s gift cards, sunglasses and more. For one fish, it’s much, much more. One lucky angler could reel in a fish that could net a million bucks.
Tagged species vary depending on location, but only a tiny fraction of fish are being tagged. Your chances of casting in the right area are roughly 1 in 6 million. By the way, your chances of being struck by lightning this year are 1 in 1 million. Best of luck on hooking a prize fish.
The contest is underway and goes through July 14. Anglers must register online to be eligible to win any prizes. If you pull a tagged fish, you should probably consider stopping for a lottery ticket on the way home.
