New York police officers rescued a swan on Wednesday that was injured with a fish hook stuck in its bill and fishing line wrapped around its neck. Officers Pete Conte and Rob Jenkins used a local mans 16 foot Carolina Skiff boat to get to the swan. Due to the water being very shallow, they could not use the police boat.
Suffolk County dispatch received a call early morning with a report of an injured swan who could not eat or defend itself.
Police were able to reach the swan and remove the fishing hook and line from the bird.
In police jargon: the swan was treated and released.
